Coupling creator develops new BBC romcom
Coupling creator Steven Moffat is developing a new romantic comedy for the BBC described as a “love story that never happens”.
The series, which has the working title Adam and Eve, is being written by Moffat for production company Hartswood Films.
It tells the story of a boss called Adam and his PA, called Eve, who have known each other all their lives but never get together.
Moffat said: “Adam and Eve is about a love story that never happens. You have two people who are made for each other but can’t possibly be together and they are called Adam and Eve because that is the ideal couple’s name. It sounds very sombre but hopefully it is funny and interesting.”
He said the BBC was interested in the series, likely to be made up of six episodes, but added it had not yet been formally commissioned.
“There is no guarantee it will happen but I am loving writing it. I have got some hopes for this one,” he added.
Moffat has previously worked with Hartswood Films on the BBC sitcom Coupling, which ran for four series, and the forthcoming BBC1 series Jekyll, starring James Nesbitt.
