Called Dance X, the series will see the Strictly Come Dancing judges scour the country for performers with the potential to form a new dance troupe.

After the audition stages, Phillips and Tonioli will go head to head as they each mentor a group of finalists, who will have to perform each week in a bid to avoid elimination.

Phillips said: “We’re looking for the coolest dancers and singers who have the drive and ambition to make it big and be part of the most exciting new group of the 21st century.”

Auditions will take place next month in Glasgow, Bristol, Manchester and London.

The series is due to go out in the summer, but the BBC has not confirmed a date.
