DJ Moyles nominated for Sony radio award

Chris Moyles, the Radio 1 broadcaster who recently took over the prestigious breakfast programme, has been shortlisted for DJ of the Year at the Sony Radio Academy Awards.

Moyles, who has described himself as the “saviour of Radio 1”, gained the morning slot from Sara Cox at the beginning of this year, moving from the drivetime show.

Other nominations for the award, which has been reinstated after a 15-year absence, include Radio 2’s Jonathan Ross, Christian O’Connell from Xfm, Kiss 100’s Bam Bam and Jo and Twiggy of 96 Trent FM.

The BBC is likely to sweep the board at the ceremony after picking up two-thirds of the 150 available nominations. The prize for best nationwide station will be won by either BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 4 or BBC Radio Five Live.

However, the Corporation’s digital radio station BBC 7 failed to attract a nomination in the Station of the Year Digital Terrestrial category, losing out to Oneword, BBC1Xtra and PrimeTime Radio.
