The comedian is set to make her opera debut as La Duchesse de Crackentorp in the production, opening on January 11.

She will appear alongside virtuoso singers including French soprano Natalie Dessay and Peruvian tenor Juan Diego Florez.

La Fille du Regiment premiered at Covent Garden in 1861 and was last performed in 1967 in a production featuring Luciano Pavarotti.

The French comedy tells the story of the beautiful Marie who, as a baby, is found on a battlefield and adopted by a regiment of soldiers.
