The Bill actor Cyril Nri is to go to Uganda next month to work with local people and help them write and film stories about their lives.

His trip is part of Project U, an initiative from the Uganda Arts and Media Academy, which aims to train young people in order to create an indigenous, skilled workforce for the future.

Nri, who trained with the Royal Shakespeare Company, said: “I am constantly inspired by the potential of young people and a country that is as creative and unexposed to mass media influences as Uganda is bound to be uplifting and professionally challenging.”

He will be working alongside UAMA director Carol Kamya and Jane Mote, the director of Lifestyle at UKTV. Mote previously commissioned a series of films entitled Africans which was showcased on British television.
