Online vote for new YourKinda TV presenter

Published Monday 20 November 2006 at 17:20 by Liz Thomas

Broadcaster YourKindaTV is launching a search for a new presenter, but in a twist to the traditional approach it is allowing website viewers to choose the winner.

As the trend for user-generated programming continues, organisations are increasingly handing more control over to audiences. Upcoming talent already help compile the content on YourKindaTV by submitting their own videos.

“There are millions of TV wannabes out there just aching for that first step to stardom. And most of them have to make do with either profiles on MySpace or videos on YouTube,” said programme producer Michael Oxley. “Here’s a chance for the best of them to dive into the deep end with an opportunity to host our new daily show.”

The winner will join current co-anchors Simon Jones and Layla Anna-Lee as a regular host of the online weekday show and the weekend show airing on Sky Digital. The competition closes on January 27.

The move comes after the BBC hired a presenter based on clips she had posted on popular internet site YouTube.
