Royal Ballet’s McRae awarded as rising star

Published Friday 20 October 2006 at 11:25 by Nuala Calvi

Royal Ballet soloist Steven McRae has received the Ben Stevenson International Rising Star Award for Excellence in Dance.

The award was accepted on McRae’s behalf by Monica Mason, director of The Royal Ballet, at a reception at the Royal Opera House before his appearance in a performance of Coppelia.

Internationally acclaimed choreographer Ben Stevenson, after whom the awards are named, said: “Mr McRae has demonstrated the ability to excel in both classical and contemporary works. He shows personality in his dance and the promise of continued artistic excellence in ballet.”

The awards, now in their second year, are sponsored by Booz Allen Hamilton.
