Me and My Girl cancels spring tour

Major musical revival Me and My Girl has cancelled the spring leg of its UK-wide tour and is hoping to secure a West End transfer next autumn.

The production, which stars Steps singer Faye Tozer, had been due to continue its tour in 2007 at the Birmingham Hippodrome, Southampton Mayflower and Liverpool Empire. However it is now set to close after its appearance at the New Wimbledon Theatre in February. Its run in Birmingham has been cancelled and some other dates will also be rescheduled.

Producer Edward Snape said: “A show of this scale can only go into large number one venues and we have been left with gaps to fill [between the dates at number one venues], which proved costly. We just can’t get it into the smaller theatres.

“Also, we do want to get this into the West End and we thought that given the enthusiasm for it, we might have contemplated this in spring but it is more likely that it will be the autumn of 2007.”
