Connie Fisher, winner of reality TV show How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?, will now appear for all eight shows a week in The Sound of Music, after Emma Williams, the actress who was hired to share the lead role, decided to pull out of the project.
According to producers Andrew Lloyd Webber and David Ian, Fisher will now feature in all scheduled performances - six evening and two matinee - “unless indisposed.” Williams has issued a statement saying that she “wishes Connie every success with the role.”
Following her victory in the televised final last Saturday, Fisher had commented that she would have loved to perform all eight shows a week but Lloyd Webber had expressed concerns over protecting the young performer’s voice.
The Sound of Music will open at the London Palladium in November.
