Nighy nets BPG Best Actor award

Bill Nighy has been named Best Actor in this year’s Broadcasting Press Guild Awards for his performance in State of Play.

The Paul Abbott drama was also singled out by the broadcasting critics as Best Drama Series, while Stephen Poliakoff’s The Lost Prince won Best Single Drama.

Former director-general of the BBC Greg Dyke received the Harvey Lee Award for Outstanding Contribution to Broadcasting at the ceremony held in the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. Other winners included:

Best Documentary Series: Wife Swap, C4.

Best Single Documentary: The Kennedy Assassination - Beyond Conspiracy, BBC2.

Best Entertainment: Little Britain, BBC3.

Best Actress: Julie Walters, Wife of Bath, The Return.

Best Performer (Non-Acting): Paul Merton - Have I Got News For You, BBC1.

Writers’ Award: Paul Abbott, State of Play.

Radio Programme of the Year: The Sunday Format, Radio 4.

Radio Broadcaster of the Year: Sean Rafferty - In Tune, Radio 3.
