Bectu pre-empts BBC with ‘recommended pay’ list

Published Thursday 14 September 2006 at 17:35 by Liz Thomas

Bectu has published a list of recommended rates for freelancers in the television industry as a countermeasure against the BBC’s plans to change the wage structure for camera workers.

The union has compiled the rates from figures provided by members and supporters and has made them public, it says, to ensure that TV and corporate freelancers have the confidence to maintain their fees and not give in to the recently introduced rate card system.

It said the information was aimed at those working across the TV drama, factual/documentary and commercial sectors and is based on going rates that have been reported for each grade for a ten-hour working day, not including a one-hour lunch break.
