Up-front fee activist Hurst wins Equity council place

Published Tuesday 25 July 2006 at 15:15 by Nuala Calvi

Up-front fees campaigner Clive Hurst has thanked The Stage for helping him win a surprise place on Equity’s council, following our campaign to stamp out bogus casting agencies.

The walk-on artist has fought against the exploitation of young aspiring performers by unscrupulous agents for years but has previously been unsuccessful in standing for council on an up-front fees ticket.

After the election results were announced this week, Hurst said: “I’d like to thank The Stage for highlighting this issue. I think the biggest step forward we had was the survey in the newspaper, which was a damning report. “I will finally be able to tell council myself what the true facts are regarding up-front fees.”
