Theatre Museum to close temporarily before new programme begins

Published Monday 17 July 2006 at 13:45 by Alistair Smith

Officials at the Theatre Museum have confirmed that a new programme for the institution will be unveiled this autumn and the site will temporarily close following this announcement, as revealed exclusively in The Stage last week.

A museum spokesperson explained: “The V&A and Royal Opera House are continuing their discussions over the future of the Theatre Museum site in Covent Garden. Both organisations expect to issue a detailed statement about proposals for the building in autumn 2006.

“The two organisations hope to be able to announce details of a partnership and a new programme of exhibitions and educational events based on their collections. It is expected that, following the announcement, there will be a temporary closure for building work to create new exhibition and education spaces. Although details are yet to be confirmed, this is most likely to be from the end of 2006 until autumn 2007.”
