Nunn confirmed as Porgy and Bess director

Published Friday 30 June 2006 at 18:05 by Nuala Calvi

Trevor Nunn has been confirmed to direct the revival of Porgy and Bess at the Savoy Theatre, as previously revealed by The Stage.

The production marks the world premiere of Nunn’s new version of the Gershwin classic, which has been re-worked into a two and a half hour musical entitled The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess.

Rehearsals will begin on September 4 for the £3 million show, which features a 40-strong cast and 20-piece orchestra. It will open on November 9, following previews from October 25.

Porgy and Bess originally premiered in 1935 at the Alvin Theatre in New York in a production directed by Rouben Mamoulian.
