US cable network Comedy Central has commissioned 13 new episodes of the show, which will be produced by 20th Century Fox but not broadcast until 2008.
All the main actors who supplied the voices of the cartoon characters - Billy West, Katey Sagal and John DiMaggio - have agreed to work on the latest run.
Futurama, which is set in the year 3000 and won three Emmy awards, originally broadcast from 1999 to 2003 but was cancelled because of poor ratings. However the series became cult viewing and racked up huge DVD sales, prompting renewed interest.
