The BBC has confirmed it is axing comedy quiz series They Think It’s All Over, after 11 years and 20 series.
The show, which was fronted by Nick Hancock until the last series when Lee Mack took over, had an assortment of panel captains including Gary Lineker, David Gower, Phil Tufnell, David Seaman and most recently Boris Becker.
Peter Fincham, controller of BBC1, said that the show had reached its “natural conclusion”. He said: “They Think It’s All Over has had a great run. It rewrote the rule book by bringing comedy and sport together in a fresh and anarchic way. It’s featured a great range of comedians rubbing shoulders with Olympic gold medalists and world champions, and has been sheer unadulterated fun.”
The show was hugely popular in the late nineties but in recent years ratings have tailed off.
