Rufus Sewell and James Nesbitt were among the guests and alumni for the Central School of Speech and Drama’s centenary celebrations at London’s Old Vic Theatre.
The celebrations included a specially created performance, narrated by Graham Norton and Lynda Bellingham, commemorating the school’s history.
Founded by Elsie Fogerty in 1906, the school was given its name with the intention of finding a ‘central’ body of principles for stage training. Today, it offers courses in acting, stage management and technical craft. In 2005 it was designated as the UK’s Centre for Excellence in Training for Theatre. The school boasts Judi Dench, Laurence Olivier and Harold Pinter among its alumni.
