Rowan Atkinson has made around £4.5 million from the sale from Tiger Aspect, the independent production house, best known for Mr Bean, The Vicar of Dibley and The Catherine Tate Show, of which he is a director.

The indie was bought for more than £25 million by American conglomerate IMG Media. Although Tiger Aspect has been swallowed by the super-indie, which recently acquired Touching the Void producer Darlow Smithson, it is understood that it will keep its identity and brand.

Tiger Aspect was formed in 1988 by Peter Bennett-Jones to help push Mr Bean productions.

The move comes at a time when there is huge consolidation in the independent production sector with giants such as All3Media, Endemol and RDF Media acquiring smaller indies.
