Appeal for fuller V&A consultation on Theatre Museum

Campaigners fighting to keep Covent Garden’s Theatre Museum in the heart of the West End have called on the Victoria and Albert Museum to undertake fuller consultation before making any final decisions on its future.

At a meeting convened by the Save London’s Theatres Campaign, supporters including Equity, Bectu and the Musicians’ Union, voted unanimously to keep the institution in Covent Garden and called on parent organisation the V&A to implement a fuller and more proactive consultation procedure. It also asked it “not to come to any final and irrevocable decision” about the future of the museum at its Trustees meeting on May 18.

An Equity spokesperson commented: “Equity was delighted there was a unanimous view that the V&A trustees should decide to keep the museum in Covent Garden. We were also pleased about the number of ideas to develop the museum and think there should be time for those to be explored.”
