Nimax Theatres, the theatre group set up last year by Nica Burns and Max Weitzenhoffer, has revealed that it will branch out into touring productions and light entertainment.
The company, which bought four West End playhouses from Really Useful Theatres - the Duchess, the Garrick, the Lyric and the Apollo - will now look to take some of its West End product into the regions, as well as setting up a light entertainment strand for shows in both the capital and nationwide.
Laurence Miller, who was recently appointed as general manager, production for Nimax, told The Stage: “We are starting up a touring side, looking at post-West End runs and also a light entertainment strand. We are focussing on One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest [which opens at the Garrick on March 21] at the moment, and we will be working on [touring and light entertainment] in the next couple of months. It’s very exciting.”
According to Miller, who joined Nimax from comedy club chain Jongleurs where he was managing director, the company hopes to have both the touring and light entertainment sections up and running later this year.
Following his appointment, general manager Joan Moynihan becomes executive director of Nimax, focussing on running the theatre buildings themselves, while Miller will lead the company’s production side.
