Web premiere for C4 computer comedy

Published Monday 30 January 2006 at 12:15

Channel 4 is broadcasting new sitcom The IT Crowd on the internet - the first time it has premiered a show online.

Set in the computer department of a big company, the show has been produced by The Office’s Ash Atalla and penned by Father Ted co-creator Graham Linehan.

It is due to air this Friday on Channel 4 and will feature guest appearances from stars such as Danny Wallace and Chris Morris. However the whole episode can now be viewed online.

Andy Taylor, managing director of Channel 4 New Media, said: ‘Premiering the show online a week before its television transmission is a first for Channel 4 and what better show could we start with than this?”

The broadcaster is also going to be the first advertiser on the world’s largest podcast, promoting its new friday night comedy schedule on The Ricky Gervais Show, a programme which is downloaded more than 300,000 times a week. The two 30-second commercials will be the only advertising on the show.
