Improved pay offer halts strike at ENO

Published Friday 20 January 2006 at 15:20 by Nuala Calvi

Technical, backstage and front of house staff at English National Opera have suspended their strike action to consider a new three-year pay deal from managers.

The offer includes increases in excess of inflation for three years, backdated to August 1, 2005 as well as an improvement in the employer’s pension contributions.

Industrial action by Bectu has now been suspended to allow the new offer to be put to members in a consultative ballot, which closes on February 6.

Bectu supervisory official Willy Donaghy said: “This new offer is a testament to the unity of our members at ENO. The offer includes pay increases in real terms for each of the next three years and consequently BECTU recommends that the offer is accepted.”
