The Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre summer production of Porgy and Bess is to star Sharon D Clarke and Nicola Hughes.
Clarke will play Mariah and Hughes will reprise the role of Bess, which she also played in Trevor Nunn’s 2006 production at the Savoy Theatre. Hughes also recently appeared in The Color Purple at the Menier Chocolate Factory and Clarke starred in Ghost the Musical at the Piccadilly Theatre.
American actors Rufus Bonds Jr and Phillip Boykin have been cast as Porgy and Crown, respectively.
The show, directed by Timothy Sheader, runs at the London venue from July 17 to August 23.
Meanwhile, it has been announced that Mark Benton, who is best known for his appearance in the BBC’s Waterloo Road, will play Henry Hobson in Hobson’s Choice. Jodie McNee has been cast as his daughter Maggie.
The production runs from June 12 to July 12 and is directed by Nadia Fall.
