Sadler’s Wells is expanding its UK touring programme for 2013/14, visiting around 80% more venues this year with more dates expected to be confirmed.
The dance house will take its shows to at least 27 different venues this season, compared to the 15 it visited in 2012/13.
It has increased its number of longer tours – those that run at more than one venue outside London – by embarking on five. Last year it had four longer tours.
The organisation also expects to have more bookings confirmed in the coming months, including those for its final tour in summer 2014 – a newly created work performed by the National Youth Dance Company and choreographed by its guest artistic director, Akram Khan.
Shows that feature in this year’s touring programme include Russell Maliphant’s Still Current, which opened on September 26 at the Point in Eastleigh and tours until May 2014, visiting 13 locations.
Meanwhile, Jonzi D’s triple bill Lyrikal Fearta: The Letter & Broken Lineage, which tours from October 21, will visit 11 venues. Hip hop dance festival Breakin’ Convention, curated by Jonzi D, tours to 10 venues in May and June 2014.
Alistair Spalding, Sadler’s Wells chief executive and artistic director, said: “This is the first time we have toured so extensively here in the UK, and I think it’s very important to undertake these tours, so that we can offer some of the best work from top artists working today to the widest possible audience.”
