Disney is considering transferring its musical Newsies to the UK.
The Disney Theatrical Group will hold exploratory open auditions for the show in London later this month on June 17.
Jill Green, the casting director for the show, said that Disney is beginning a search to find “extraordinary dance talent”.
She said: “The award-winning choreography [for Newsies] by Christopher Gattelli requires energetic male dancers with excellent ballet technique, acrobatic skills, tap dancing, and more. It will be exciting for the team to meet talented men from across the country at these open auditions.”
The stage adaptation of Walt Disney Studios’ 1992 film Newsies, which is inspired by a newspaper boy strike in New York in 1899, first ran at the Paper Mill Playhouse in New Jersey in the US in 2011.
It is currently running at Broadway’s Nederlander Theatre.
The show has a book by Harvey Fierstein, with music and lyrics by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman. It is directed by Jeff Calhoun and choreographed by Christopher Gattelli.
