Former BBC head of light entertainment David Young is returning to independent company Hat Trick Productions, where he will develop new entertainment formats for the organisation.
Young first worked for Hat Trick in 1990 as a runner, when he was still at Bristol University.
He later became head of light entertainment at the BBC – the youngest ever to hold that post at the Corporation – and left in 2001 to form independent company 12 Yard Productions, which was a joint venture with Hat Trick.
He remained with 12 Yard – which has created shows such as Eggheads – until 2010.
At Hat Trick he will work with managing director Jimmy Mulville to develop and co-produce new entertainment formats.
Young said: “I’m excited that, for the first time in over 20 years, I have the opportunity to have Jimmy as a creative partner again to co-develop and co-produce new formats together.”
Mulville added: “David is really coming home. To welcome him back now as one of the country’s most prolific creators of enduring entertainment formats is a very exciting prospect.”
