Jennifer Ellison has revealed plans to launch a full-time performing arts college for young people aged 16 to 18.
The performer told The Stage she is forming the college following the success of her part-time, Liverpool-based Jennifer Ellison Fame Academy, which currently operates three times a week and provides students with classes in singing, dancing and acting.
Ellison, currently appearing in the West End production of Singin’ in the Rain, said the full-time college was being created in response to the demand from students who currently attend her academy.
“Some students, when they leave our school, want to stay and do further education, but I can’t offer it. We are being kind of forced to do it. I want to do it, but it’s a lot of work. If we are at a point where the students want to stay, and want a college and further education, we have to start offering it,” she said.
She said the college is likely to be formed in a “year or two”, and added that she is currently trying to find premises that could host it.
In the meantime, she said she is preparing to open a second branch of her Jennifer Ellison Fame Academy.
