Hull Truck Theatre has appointed Pat Weller as an interim executive director, following the departure of Andrew Smaje last year.
The company said Weller, who was most recently interim chief executive of Edinburgh’s Festival City Theatres Trust, will provide “executive management cover for a period of six months”.
Smaje left Hull Truck last year to “pursue new opportunities”. His tenure at the venue was sometimes controversial, with both him and the company criticised in 2011 when artistic director Gareth Tudor Price was made redundant and not replaced.
This resulted in playwright John Godber, a former artistic director of Hull Truck, severing his 25-year association with the organisation.
Weller is a former executive director at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester and has previously been an interim chief executive for Curve in Leicester.
She has also been general manager of the Mermaid Theatre in London.
Weller said: “I am delighted to be joining Hull Truck Theatre and I’m looking forward to working with the team on developing the work of this exciting company.”
Geoff Sargieson, chairman of Hull Truck Theatre board, said Weller has “a wealth of experience of executive roles in the theatre”.
“I am delighted someone of her caliber has agreed to join us,” he said.
