National Theatre Wales executive producer Lucy Davies is to join the Royal Court Theatre as executive director.

She will leave the company she co-founded with artistic director John McGrath three years ago to take up her new position in April, 2013.

This will coincide with the beginning of Vicky Featherstone’s role as artistic director of the Royal Court, when she succeeds Dominic Cooke.

Kate Horton - the theatre’s most recent executive director - left earlier this year to join the National Theatre.

Davies has previously been executive producer at the Donmar Warehouse and head of studio at the National Theatre under Nicholas Hytner.

Anthony Burton, chairman of the Royal Court, said: "I am delighted that Lucy Davies will be joining Vicky Featherstone in April next year to take the Royal Court into a new and exciting era. Lucy stood out among exceptionally talented and experienced applicants for this vital appointment. Her innovative work and success as executive producer at the National Theatre Wales and the Donmar Warehouse makes her the perfect choice."
