Owen Calvert-Lyons has been named the new artistic director of The Point and its sister venue the Berry Theatre.
He will take over the running of the Eastleigh venues from his predecessor Sarah Brigham, who announced earlier this year that she would be joining the Derby Theatre from January.
Currently the creative learning manager at London’s Arcola Theatre, Calvert-Lyons will take up his new position in March 2013.
Previously, he has worked within the creative learning departments at York Theatre Royal, Herefordshire’s Courtyard Centre for the Arts and Theatre Royal Plymouth. He is also the vice chair of the National Association of Youth Theatres.
Calvert-Lyons said: “I am thrilled to be joining The Point as artistic director, following the excellent work done by Sarah Brigham. It’s a great theatre, with outstanding facilities and huge ambition. I look forward to working with the staff team to continue to develop The Point as a centre for emerging artists and innovative theatre practice.
“I’m also looking forward to building on the growing reputation of the Berry Theatre for staging plays for children and families which are filled with wonder and imagination. In both of these venues, we will be able to provide audiences in Eastleigh with theatre that genuinely excites them.”
