The actress Dinah Sheridan, who appeared in the classic films, Genevieve (1953) and The Railway Children (1970), has died at the age of 92.
Her agent said she died peacefully at her home in Northwood, Middlesex, on Sunday surrounded by her family.
Her son, Jeremy, a former chairman of the Conservative Party, once told an interviewer that she practically played herself in The Railway Children, except that in real life she was much more smiling.
In the 1980s, Sheridan starred in the BBC Television sitcom, Don’t Wait Up, with Nigel Havers and Tony Britton. She was also seen in the TV comedy, All Night Long (1994), with Keith Barron.
A full obituary will appear a future edition of The Stage.
