Musicians from the Orchestra of Scottish Opera have formed a co-operative to market themselves as a commercial operation.
This follows a move in 2011 that saw the orchestra’s members put on to part-time contracts. It is hoped the co-operative will allow the musicians to play more often, as an orchestra and individuals.
Membership of Music Co-operative Scotland – McOpera – is open to all members of the orchestra and members’ agreements are now being signed. It will not have a formal relationship with Scottish Opera, but does have its support.
Services provided will include a wedding agency, small ensembles and concert performances of opera.
