Shakespeare’s Globe has announced its 2013 season, which will feature three in-house productions by Shakespeare, plus world premieres of new work from playwrights Che Walker, Jessica Swale and Samuel Adamson.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Tempest and Macbeth will form part of the programme.
Alongside this will be Walker’s The Lightening Child, with music by Arthur Darvill, a new play by Swale called Blue Stockings and Adamson’s Gabriel, which will feature English trumpet soloist Alison Balsom.
The venue will also present a mid-scale UK tour of Henry VI, Parts 1, 2 and 3, including a visit to the Globe in summer 2013.
Meanwhile, small-scale tours of King Lear and The Taming of the Shrew will play at the Globe during their UK, European and US tour schedule.
Companies from this year’s Globe to Globe festival will return for next year’s season, as part of wider international tours.
South African company Isango Ensemble will perform Venus and Adonis, while Marjanishvili Theatre will return with its version of As You Like It.
Belarus Free Theatre will bring back its production of King Lear and theatre group Footsbarn will perform Indian Tempest.
The season will begin on Shakespeare’s birthday, April 23, 2013. Public booking will be available from February 2013.
