Sadler’s Wells’ 15th anniversary programme will include a new work by choreographer and dancer Akram Khan inspired by composer Igor Stravinsky’s ballet The Rite of Spring.
Khan will present the full-length piece as part of a series of works commissioned by the venue that will mark the centenary of the composer’s original creation.
ITMOI (In the Mind of Igor) will be performed from May 29 to June 1, 2013.
Fabulous Beast Dance Theatre will also present two works by choreographer and new associate artist Michael Kaagan-Dolan as part of the series, from April 11 to 13, 2013.
Meanwhile, Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch will return to the venue to perform Two Cigarettes in the Dark and Vollmond (Full Moon).
Guest company the National Ballet of Canada will perform the European premiere of Alexei Ratmansky’s Romeo and Juliet from April 17 to 21, 2013 and the Forsythe Company from June 18 to 20, 2013.
The recently formed National Youth Dance Company, which comprises 90 teenagers aged 16 to 19 years old, will perform its debut show at the venue, directed by Jasmin Vardimon.
Meanwhile, the venue will also launch New Wave Associates, an initiative designed to support young choreographers over a two-year period until spring 2014.
