Theatre Awards UK’s first public vote for the best touring production category, which is sponsored by The Stage, is now open.
Following the announcement of the nominations across all categories earlier this week, audience members can now register a vote online to choose their favourite of five touring productions.
Music and Lyrics’ tour of The King and I, which was first staged at Leicester’s Curve theatre is in line for the award, alongside Northern Broadsides’ play We Are Three Sisters. English Touring Theatre’s production of Anne Boleyn, which was originally created by Shakespeare’s Globe joins them.
Also vying for the title is Graeae Theatre Company and New Wolsey Theatre’s production of Reasons to be Cheerful, plus the Children’s Touring Partnership’s tour of Swallows and Amazons. This show, which is in association with the National Theatre, was originally produced by Bristol Old Vic.
Julian Bird, chief executive of Theatrical Management Association which organises the Theatre Awards UK, said: “The reason we have introduced the concept of an audience vote is to try and give people who go to the theatre up and down the country a chance to be more directly involved in choosing the winners.”
He added: “Touring is something that is fundamental to theatre and very important to the TMA so this is a great opportunity for people to have a say.”
Voting for the best touring production award is available at The Stage online until October 22. To see nominations for all categories click here.
