Place Prize dance finalists announced

This year’s Place Prize for dance finalists include contemporary performer Rick Nodine, Italian dancer and choreographer Riccardo Buscarini, dance company H2dance and text-inspired choreographer Eva Recacha.

H2dance, which comprises duo Hannah Gillgren and Heidi Rustgaard, has been nominated for Duet, which has been described as a “bitter-sweet autobiographical piece”.

Meanwhile Buscarini, who was a Place Prize finalist in 2011, has reached this year’s final for his piece Athletes, which is in collaboration with fashion designer Brooke Roberts.

Nodine has been nominated for Dead Gig, which is a tribute to band The Grateful Dead, and Recacha has been put forward to the final for her narrative piece The Wishing Well.

The four finalists were selected from a total of 16 dance commissions by a panel of judges, which included Breakin’ Convention artistic director Jonzi D, the Daily Telegraph chief arts editor Sarah Crompton and Candoco Dance Company’s co-artistic director Stine Nilson.

The finals will take place from April 17 to 27, 2013 at London’s Robin Howard Dance Theatre.

The prize, which is sponsored by Bloomberg, will see the overall winner receive £25,000. The finalists can also win a total of £10,000 via a nightly £1,000 prize from a live audience vote during the finals.
