The London Evening Standard Theatre Awards will include a new category honouring an emerging director this year.
The award will be officially called the Burberry Award for Emerging Director, with this year’s ceremony being run in association with Burberry.
The event, which will be held at London’s Savoy Hotel on November 25, will be presented by James Corden, who won a Tony Award for best leading actor earlier this year.
It will be co-hosted by the newspaper’s chairman and owner, Evgeny Lebedev, Burberry chief creative officer, Christopher Bailey, and American Vogue editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour.
The judging panel will include theatre critics Henry Hitchings, Georgina Brown, Susannah Clapp, Libby Purves, Charles Spencer, Matt Wolf and the London Evening Standard’s editor, Sarah Sands.
Nomination details are yet to be announced.
Sands said: “We are hugely excited about this new partnership with Burberry and look forward to celebrating the fantastic theatre talent for which London is internationally renowned.”
