Scottish children’s show Hairy Maclary to tour to Australia

Nonsense Room Productions has announced that its hit children’s show Hairy Maclary and Friends is to tour Australia for two years with a local cast.

The production is based on the best-selling books by New Zealand author Lynley Dodd. Directed by Nonsense Room’s Bruce Strachan and presented by Andrew Kay and Associates, the Australian production will initially tour to venues in Melbourne and Perth from September 2012.

Bruce Strachan, said: “We are delighted that we are continuing our Australian adventure with the Hairy Maclary and Friends show. It was a huge hit at Sydney Opera House and we look forward to working with Andrew Kay and Associates to take the show to even more Hairy Maclary fans down under.”

Hairy Maclary and Friends was premiered at the Edinburgh fringe in 2010 by the Roslin-based company which had previously specialised in site-specific productions at Rosslyn Chapel, the historic site south of Edinburgh. Original music is by Matthew Brown.

After touring the UK in 2011 the show was invited to play the Christmas season at Sydney Opera House where the run was extended to seven weeks. The production is currently at the Edinburgh Fringe and touring venues in the UK until November 2012.
