Rachael Stirling to star as Medea

Rachael Stirling has been cast in the title role of a new adaptation of Medea by playwright Mike Bartlett.

The co-production between Headlong, Citizens Theatre, Glasgow and Watford Palace Theatre will begin touring the UK this autumn.

The play, which is based on the original Greek myth by Euripides, will begin its run in Scotland from September 27 to October 13 at Citizens Theatre, Glasgow, with press night on October 2.

It will continue at London’s Watford Palace Theatre from September 16 to October 27, with a second press night on October 18, before touring the rest of the UK.

Bartlett’s previous work includes the stage adaptation Chariots of Fire, now running at London’s Gielgud Theatre and productions Love Love Love and Cock previously staged at the Royal Court Theatre.

Ruari Murchison has designed the show, with lighting from Johanna Town and composition and sound by Tom Mills.
