Gavin Shuman has been appointed as general manager of London’s New Wimbledon Theatre, replacing Samantha Bain, who has worked at the venue for more than a decade.
Shuman joins from his position as deputy operations manager at Ambassador Theatre Group, which has owned and operated the New Wimbledon Theatre since 2003, while Bain leaves to run her recently created production company, Nebula Theatre.
Shuman has worked for ATG since October 2010 when he joined as box office manager of the New Victoria Theatre in Woking.
Before that he spent five years in his position as cinema manager for Vue Cinemas, where he oversaw the opening of a number of sites including Westfield Shepherd’s Bush.
He said: “I have always been keen to secure a management role at New Wimbledon Theatre due to the high-scale productions and the beautiful features of the Edwardian venue. I am very excited to be working at this iconic theatre, which is regarded as ‘the home of London pantomime’. We have a fantastic season of shows ahead, highlights include 9 to 5, a new musical by Dolly Parton, and the return of Glyndebourne with two operas of the highest quality – Le nozze di Figaro and Rusalka.”
