A contestant from BBC talent show The Voice has been cast as Leigh Bowery in the Boy George musical Taboo.
Sam Buttery, who was eliminated during one of The Voice’s live shows, will play the part that was originally performed by Boy George.
Buttery said: “It’s amazing to make my professional debut in a show as fabulous as Taboo. Leigh Bowery is such an icon to me, so to get the chance to play him is just phenomenal.”
In real life, Bowery owned London’s Taboo nightclub during the 80s and 90s.
Taboo will be directed by Christopher Renshaw and run from September 6 to December 23 at London’s Brixton Club House.
