Two men have been arrested on suspicion of arson after a fire at Derby Hippodrome on Saturday.
Around 40 firefighters attended the blaze after the emergency services were called to the Grade II-listed building at 3.30am on November 26. The police evacuated 15 people living nearby and closed several roads surrounding the venue.
The Derbyshire Constabulary has issued a statement saying that they have arrested a 19 year-old and a 23-year-old, who are currently in custody. It added that “they will be questioned by detectives later”.
Concerns about the building’s safety means that the area around the former theatre remains cordoned off.
In 2008, firefighters were called to tackle a fire at the theatre and it was hit by a second fire in January 2009.
