The Pitmen Painters to transfer to the West End

Lee Hall’s The Pitmen Painters is to transfer to the West End for the first time, opening at the Duchess Theatre in October.

The play, a co-production between Live Theatre in Newcastle and the National Theatre, is touring the UK from Monday. The tour will conclude on October 1 in Wales, and the production will open at the Duchess on October 5.

Press night will be on October 11.

The Pitmen Painters is inspired by a book written by William Feaver.

It originally ran at Live Theatre in Newcastle in 2007, before transferring to the National in May the following year. It was brought back to the National in 2009 and a production opened on Broadway in September last year.

Casting has not yet been announced for the West End run, but a statement said the show will feature many of the actors who starred in the play at the National and on Broadway.

Bill Kenwright is presenting the production in the West End.
