Olivier and Tony award-winning actress Margaret Tyzack dies

Actress Margaret Tyzack, whose work ranged from Shakespeare to Edward Albee, has died at the age of 79.

She will be particularly remembered for two television roles, Winifred in The Forsyte Saga and Antonia in I, Claudius.

In the theatre, she won an Olivier award for playing Martha in Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? Another major success was her portrayal of Lotte Schoen opposite Maggie Smith in Peter Shaffer’s Lettice and Lovage.

Her performance won her a Variety Club award and, on Broadway, a Tony. A full obituary will appear in the print version of The Stage later.
