The Ulster Bank is to end its sponsorship of the Dublin Theatre Festival in 2011 after five years as the annual event’s title sponsor.
The partnership, which began in 2007, was initially for a three-year period. It was extended last year and will conclude at the end of this year’s 54th season, which runs from September 29 to October 16. Artistic director Loughlin Deegan said the Ulster Bank’s support “over the past five years has played a vital role in the growth and development of the festival”.
The partnership produced successful initiatives such as the Open House scheme, and a number of free ticket programs that attracted audiences new to theatre and boosted overall attendance numbers.
The bank, which has pledged to work with festival managers to find a new title sponsor for 2012, says it “will continue to support the arts [in Ireland] at a local level in the future”.
