Electronic pop duo Pet Shop Boys are to write the score for the Young Vic’s Christmas show, My Dad’s a Birdman, by Skellig author David Almond.

The children’s show, a tale of a ‘great human bird competition’, will run at the Young Vic’s Maria Theatre from November 25 until January 1, 2011.

Previously Pet Shop Boys have written the 2001 West End musical Closer to Heaven with playwright Jonathan Harvey. They are currently scoring a new ballet for Sadler’s Wells that opens next spring. This is the duo’s first theatre project for children.
