Alison Steadman takes lead in West End’s Blithe Spirit

Alison Steadman is to star in Noel Coward’s Blithe Spirit in the West End next year.

The show, which is being staged by Theatre Royal Bath Productions, will be directed by Thea Sharrock, whose version of Terence Rattigan’s After the Dance is currently playing the National Theatre.

Blithe Spirit will run from March 2 to June 18, 2011, with press night on March 9 in the Apollo Theatre.

Steadman will play the clairvoyant in the play, in which a couple conjure up the ghost of the husband’s first wife.

The actress previously worked with Theatre Royal Bath Productions on Enjoy by Alan Bennett, which ran in the West End at the Gielgud Theatre.
