Danielle Hope wins Over the Rainbow

Danielle Hope has been named the winner of BBC1′s Over the Rainbow show, with the 18-year-old student now set to play Dorothy in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s new production of The Wizard of Oz.

Hope, from Greater Manchester, beat 22-year-old Lauren Samuels, who came third, and 17-year-old Sophie Evans, who finished in second place after last night’s live shows.

On winning the role, Hope said: “I really don’t think that thank you is enough – to the crew, everyone backstage, the panel, Andrew, the amazing public, everyone who comes here every week supporting us and the people at home.”

Lloyd Webber said he was “really pleased with the result” and added: “The nation has never got it wrong and now is where the hard work begins.”

Hope’s single, Over the Rainbow, will be available to download from today, with a physical copy available from May 31.
