John Simm to play Hamlet at Sheffield Crucible

John Simm is to star as Hamlet at the Sheffield Crucible in September 2010.

The production, which marks Simm’s debut at the theatre, will reunite him with Sheffield’s associate director Paul Miller – the two last collaborated on Elling at the Bush Theatre and in the West End.

Simm is currently appearing in Speaking in Tongues at the Duke of York’s Theatre in London, but he is perhaps best known for his role in BBC series Life On Mars.

Meanwhile, full casting has been confirmed for the inaugural production of Daniel Evans’ tenure as artistic director of Sheffield Theatres – An Enemy of the People.

Antony Sher will be joined by Roger Bingham, Alex Blake, Chris Brailsford, Lucy Cohu, Susannah Fielding, Trystan Gravelle, Philip Joseph, Charles McClury, Daniel Poyser, Brodie Ross, John Shrapnel and Chook Sibtain.

The production opens on February 17, with previews from February 11 and runs until March 20.
