Battersea’s Theatre 503 is to stage London’s second verbatim play about the shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes by the Metropolitan Police.
This Much is True is written by Paul Unwin, co-creator of BBC series Casualty, and Sarah Beck. According to producers, it “interweaves contemporary media footage with previously unheard testimonies from Jean Charles de Menezes’s family and friends, senior Police Officers from the case, ‘Justice for Jean’ campaigners, the legal teams, whistle-blowers and eye-witnesses”.
The play will run at the south London venue from October 27 to November 21, with press night on October 30. It will be directed by Tim Roseman, co-artistic director of Theatre 503.
Earlier this year, Stockwell: The Inquest into the Death of Jean Charles De Menezes played at the Landor Theatre in Clapham and the Tricycle Theatre in Kilburn. It was created by Keiron Barry using official inquest transcripts.
